One of Lincoln City’s major attractions is its 680 acre scenic lake which is called Devil’s Lake. Aside from fishing, Devil’s lake is also a location for other water based activities like windsurfing, water skiing, knee-boarding and jet skiing. Devil’s lake has an allied attraction in the form of the ‘D’ River which is known as ‘the shortest river in the world’. The ‘D’ River has its source in Devil’s lake but it soon empties into the Pacific Ocean which is located a mere 120 feet away.

A unique attraction in Lincoln City is the beach combing for glass floats. Glass floats were once used by Japanese fishing crews to float their nets. These floats which were usually green or blue in color over the years came to be regarded as a treasured find for the dedicated beach comber. However today most fishing crews use plastic floats and glass floats are now considered to be a rarity though they continue to be found on the beaches of Lincoln City. This is because ever since the turn of the century the city has used glass floats as a means to attract enthusiastic beach combers to its shores.

Lincoln city’s Visitors bureau annually undertakes this promotion and from Mid-October to Memorial Day litters the many beaches of Lincoln City with hand crafted glass floats which are meant to be found and kept by visiting beach combers. If you happen to find such a glass float on your Lincoln City vacation you are supposed to inform the Lincoln City Visitor and Convention Bureau who will then supply you with a certificate of authenticity which also provides you with information about the local artist who created your float.
