Oceanside Attractions

The Oceanside Pier has the distinction of being the longest wooden Pier in the western United States as it extends over 1,954 feet. This pier was built in 1888 but it has been upgraded over the years and is a hub of activity in Oceanside as it is popular with walkers and anglers though it is also equipped with a 50’s style diner that is located at its tip. Located adjacent to the base of the pier is the Oceanside Amphitheater which hosts several events during the year like the Summer Jam Talent Show and other musical performances.

Oceanside’s other prominent attractions include the 18th century, Mission San Luis Rey de Francia which is one of the original Alta California missions that was established here by the Spanish Catholics of the Franciscan Order between 1769 and 1823 who sought to spread Christianity among the local Native Americans. The mission offers guided tours and weekend mass. The California Surf Museum is another interesting attraction that is located in Oceanside that chronicles the art, culture and heritage of the extremely popular sport of surfing. Also worth a visit is the Oceanside Museum of Art which is housed in a building that was designed by the father of modern American architecture, Irving Gill in the 1930’s.

Oceanside Events

Oceanside’s harbor is especially lively populated as it is with small shops, restaurants and outlets of boat rental operators who offer a wide variety of activities like dinner cruises, deep sea fishing expeditions and more. During the second weekend in September every year, the city celebrates is annual Harbor Days festival which features various street vendors, local artists and restaurants that showcase local products, foods and talents. The city also has a huge celebration for the Latin Day of the Dead festival which is celebrated on the 1st of November every year and features music, parades and carnival rides.
