The Junkanoo Expo Museum gives tourists a taste of the flavor of the famous Junkanoo Summer Festival; perfect if you do not happen to overlap your vacation during the festival. Bimini is known as one of the world’s best deep sea fishing haunts, so, take advantage of the opportunities just as Hemingway did in these well stocked waters. Other islands can be reached via an inter-island fast ferry, so even if you are situated in a vacation rental on one island, you can still make a day trip to another and discover another side of the Bahamas.
Bahamas Dining
A diverse range of international cuisines can be found on the islands but some of the local specialties should be sampled. Bahamians have are great seafarers and the surrounding waters are rich with the inhabitants´ seafood staple, the delicious conch. The meat of this mollusk is seasoned then deep fried, or added to soup, stewed or eaten in a seafood salad. Fish is also plentiful such as Mahi Mahi, which is usually fried or broiled with tomatoes, onions, and herbs; or perhaps just bring the freshly caught fish and prepare it your favorite way for a meal in your vacation rental.
Bahamas Shopping
Local crafts, arts, ceramics, rum, and straw products made into hats and handbags make for nice souvenirs. The larger islands contain stylish boutiques featuring high end Swiss watches and Irish linen. Since 1992, these shops of the Bahamas have been duty free and pricing is significantly lower than for the same product back home.
